Ann Marie Payne first contacted our office in July, 2006 seeking help with a business start-up.
As a graduate of Texas A&M's floral certification program, Mrs. Payne wanted to open a flower shop in Wichita Falls.

Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Payne's package was ready to be presented to her banker.

On October 21, 2006 Ann Marie celebrated the grand opening of her new store - Mystic Floral.

Recently, Mrs. Payne expanded her business. Mystic Floral is a well recognized and highly sought-after flower shop in the Wichita Falls area that is open 7 days a week.

The SBDC office assisted Mrs. Payne with a business plan, cash flow projections, obtaining a cash injection, marketing, and bookkeeping. Mystic Floral has 1 full-time and 4 part-time employees.

Tip from Anne Marie: Bunch a few cinnamon sticks with a couple of stems of cattails, wheat or rye and tie with a piece of raffia. Place on the pillow or nightstand in the guest bedroom or on the vanity in the guest bath.

Roy Davoult became a client of the MSU SBDC in 1999. He was working full‑time but the American dream of owning his own business was nagging at him. Roy consulted with the SBDC about several variations of his idea before he and the SBDC staff determined "this one is it". He opened Cells‑U‑More in June, 2000. Roy has faced all of the typical challenges of starting a small business ‑ creating and managing growth, managing employees, dealing with fiscal responsibilities, etc. Roy has overcome, even dodged, some the typical start‑up and operational issues by seeking advice from other business owners, his loan officer and the MSU SBDC. Of course, a few lessons have been learned the hard way. Spotting talent and thinking outside of the box are only two of Roy's many attributes. He has a keen sense of timing in the marketplace. He is able to foresee trends in order to perfectly position his company for the next 12 to 18 months. Knowing that the best advertisement is a customer referral, excellent customer service is also a Cells‑U‑More specialty. June 2006, Roy was named Runner‑up for SBA Small Business Person of the year in the Dallas District. At the 2006 ASBDC National Conference he was also recognized a "SBDC Success Story from Across the United States" by Bank of America. "Without the MSU SBDC I would never have been able to get my business started. I return every year for an annual analysis. Being able to call and to get advice at any time has been unbelievable. The MSU SBDC is like having a business partner and that is a great thing."
